Mountain Air and History: Listen to WWII history told through engaging stories by three nationally recognized historians. Best-selling authors Alex Kershaw, Jonathan Jordan and James Scott will regale you with the human dramas of three of history’s greatest battles: the D-Day landing in Normandy, the Battle of the Bulge in Belgium, and the Doolittle Raid on Tokyo. Bonus: Meet three WWII veterans who were there! George Sarros was on LST 515 landing troops on the beach in Normandy. Ed Cottrell flew 65 missions as a P-47 fighter pilot, including the Battle of the Bulge. Joe Cooper was a gunner’s mate on the USS Ommaney Bay when it was sunk by a Kamikaze attack during the battle of the Leyte Gulf.

The Blue Ridge mountain town of Brevard, NC, is lined with a pleasing assortment of locally-owned shops, galleries and restaurants with a small gem at the center: The Veterans History Museum of the Carolinas. After hearing the historians and meeting the WWII veterans, join a guide for a tour of the Museum to see displays such as a restored WWII Jeep and Harley motorcycle ridden by MPs in Europe. Check out "grandparent’s delight": O.P. Taylor’s toy store with authentic models of WWII aircraft, plus a huge assortment of Legos.
