The Book of Mormon
The Book of Mormon
at the Peace Center
March 9, 2019
The Book of Mormon has taken Broadway by storm and is continuing its excitement throughout the nation. The show is a religious satire musical with book, lyrics and music by Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone. It lampoons organized religion and traditional musical theatre, both huge targets for the creators’ brash and unrelenting sarcasm and humor.
The Book of Mormon tells the story of two young Mormon missionaries sent to a village in Africa, where a brutal warlord is threatening the local population. Naïve and optimistic, the two young men try to share their scriptures but have trouble connecting with the locals. The language is rough, the satire is ruthless and the show still garners huge critical acclaim. It has won nine Tony awards including Best Musical and also a Grammy for the Best Theater Album. It is very funny and very irreverent, so decide to set aside your sensitivities and get ready to laugh.
