October 24-27, 2018

Explore wild, wonderful West Virginia at the peak of fall foliage season. We will begin with lunch (and shopping) at the Tamarack Arts Center followed by an underground train ride at the historic Beckley Exhibition coal mine with retired miners leading the tour.

The next day we will board the world-renowned New River Train for an excursion through the beautiful New River Gorge— known as “The Grand Canyon of the East.”

Our journey will then take us to The Greenbrier, widely regarded as one of the finest luxury resorts in the world. Combining graciousness of the past with exceptional comforts and elegance of today. Our stay will include a tour of the Cold War fallout shelter at The Greenbrier known as The Bunker, a government facility that remained top secret for more than three decades.

The next day enjoy an open air ride on the Cass Scenic Railroad that will transport you back in time for a memorable adventure along a turn of the century logging railway. Later we will learn about radio astronomers listening to the remote whispers of the universe at the Greenbank Observatory nestled in rolling farmland of West Virginia in an area known as the National Quiet Zone.
