Waterways and Wildlife!

Greetings from sunny and breezy Florida!

We made it down to Amelia Island on our first overnight tour of 2017 - Waterways and Wildlife Mystery Tour. We have a great group of travelers along (Globe Treks guests are always the best!) Our first stop for lunch was at Shug's southern soul cafe, a family run restaurant in St George, SC where the father is head chef and the son runs the front of the house when his mom is not there to oversee. Lovely family and they really know how to make some tasty southern staples - best fried chicken I have had in a long time. Excellent okra greens and mac and cheese.

After lunch we stopped to stretch our legs at the Savannah Wildlife Refuge in Hardeeville. An informative video and nice exhibits by the fish and wildlife service. Unfortunately our coach is too tall to take on the four mile wildlife drive, but it was a very fun stop. We had a great dinner at a local restaurant called 29 South in Fernandina Beach and then checked into our rooms at the Hampton Inn historic riverfront location. It is located right on Centre Street in downtown darling Fernandina beach.

We saw some wildlife (including alligators, of course) at Okefenokee Adventures, located on the east side of the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge. Our adventures on this tour have also included a creek cruise to Cumberland Island with Amelia River Cruises. And we experienced some urban wildlife in Jacksonville, Florida at a performance of the Broadway show "Jersey Boys." You just never know what you will end up doing on a Globe Treks Mystery Tour! At the White Oak Conservation Center we got up close and personal with a mama giraffe and a baby cheetah.

Ferdinanda Beach is full of beautiful Victorian homes, massive live oaks, and historic churches. It is almost like a beach version of Hendersonville. Having a "wild" time and wish you were here!
