North Carolina's Outer Banks

May 24, 2017

It's our signature tour - The Outer Banks. The Globe Treks motor coach makes the journey eastward twice a year, once in the springtime and once in the fall.  It's a scenic tour of beaches, lighthouses, quaint little towns, wild horses, and of course, great restaurants.

Globe Treks tour managers, Bob and Margaret Palmer, led the tour again this spring and shared their memories with me after they returned along with this great photo taken at the top of the lighthouse on Cape Hatteras.

"We had a great tour to the Outer Banks and covered a lot of territory in a short period of time.  It was fun and we had a great group of guests. It’s really hard to say what we enjoyed the most on our tour.  It was fun seeing the wild horses.  We also enjoyed seeing and climbing the lighthouses.  Beaufort is a quaint little town on the water front and we had a nice time strolling down main street and also on the boardwalk.  Then we topped off our tour by staying in Wrightsville Beach and enjoyed touring Wilmington and then walking on the beach.

This was the first time for many of our guests to the Outer Banks.  We saw maybe 25 wild horses on our tour.  The horses were in people’s backyards, but their backyards are just part of the beach. We ate a lot of seafood while we were on our tour.  However all of the restaurants also offered a range of steaks and hamburgers, which made everybody happy. The local tour guides that we had were very good.  They talked mainly about the history of the area.  They covered topics such as how the area developed, and how it continues to change even today.
